According to Aéroports de Paris (ADP), Paris Airport handled a total of 38,088,844 passengers from January to May 2023. This represents a significant increase of +30.0 per cent compared to last year’s period, indicating a strong recovery in air travel demand.
Additionally, the airport’s performance during this period stood at 89.8 per cent compared to 2019, indicating that it has yet to reach the pre-pandemic passenger levels fully.
The Group traffic at the airport also experienced a significant increase of +18.8 per cent compared to May of the previous year, reaching a total of 29.0 million passengers. As a result, this figure represents 101.5 per cent of the traffic recorded in May 2019, indicating that the airport has recovered to pre-pandemic levels and surpassed them.
Further data revealed that France’s share of traffic in Paris Airport in May of this year was 12.6 per cent. This indicates a decrease of -4.4 per cent compared to May of the previous year. However, compared to May 2019, the share of traffic in France stood at 79.5 per cent, suggesting a recovery of almost 80 per cent compared to pre-pandemic levels.
At the same time, Europe’s share of traffic at Paris Airport accounted for 47.9 per cent in May 2023. The figure represents a significant increase of +12.5 per cent compared to May 2022. Compared to May 2019, Europe’s share of traffic stood at 96.8 per cent.
In terms of other international passengers at Paris Airport, the share of traffic was 35.6 per cent, last month, showing a significant growth of +25.1 per cent compared to May last year. On the other hand, compared to May 2019, the share of other international passengers stood at 102.0 per cent, surpassing the traffic figures from that year.
Based on these figures, at Paris Aéroport, there were a total of 58,285 movements during May 20233, representing an increase of +8.9 per cent compared to May 2022. Meanwhile, compared to May 2019, the total movements reached 92.2 per cent of the traffic figures from that year.
Furthermore, reaching this figure of the above-mentioned traffic levels recorded in May 2019 demonstrates a substantial recovery in overall aviation activity, pointing that the airport is nearing pre-pandemic levels.
